September 30 is Orange Shirt Day, a day to honor the survivors and families of the residential/boarding school system, as well as those children who never made it home.
September was chosen because it is the time of year when children traditionally return to school. Orange Shirt Day provides an opportunity to learn, remember, and show respect for the experiences of Indigenous children and families affected by the boarding school system.
