Last month, our middle school students had an exciting hands-on fly fishing experience with local fishing guide, Fred Rowe, who led students through the fundamentals of the sport. Students learned proper fly fishing etiquette, how to set up rods and reels, how to cast to varying distances, as well as false casting, and how to properly land a fish.
To wrap up the lesson, students put their new skills to the test with a fun game of fly fishing golf!
A huge thank-you to the Cortland Line Company for generously providing us with our fly fishing rods, reels, and line, making this special learning opportunity possible. We are grateful for our community partners who help bring real-world experiences to our students!
