This week, students and staff celebrated a special milestone! Students who eat school lunch enjoyed the very first carrot harvest from our school farm. An incredible 189 pounds of carrots were harvested and served in Monday and Tuesday’s lunch. We want to give a big thank you to our amazing cafeteria staff who worked hard to prepare the carrots for the students.
These carrots were planted back in November in the hoop house, and they’re just one of the many gifts our new farm provides. The farm is not only nourishing students’ bodies, but also their minds. The skills students learn on the farm also carry into the classroom. For example, using math to calculate how much food a 20-foot row can produce.
There’s something truly special about locally grown food. Farmer Bruce believes that when students take pride in growing their own food, they’re more likely to eat their veggies. What do you think? 🥕
